The use of steroids for treating preemies between 28-32 weeks of age, does not lead to any harm. This finding was disclosed in an issue of Pediatrics and suggested that brains of babies remain virtually unaffected by steroid administration, a fact that nullifies the past belief that repeated courses of steroids in the womb lead to brain damage.
This finding is expected to offer crucial insights to members of the medical fraternity besides offering relief to expecting mothers.
